Kimberly Hisa

Ms. Hisa is a Partner at Schumann Arevalo LLP. Ms. Hisa’s practice focuses primarily on insurance defense and general liability civil litigation including personal injury, premises liability, and product liability. Ms. Hisa has extensive law and motion experience, including oral argument and appellate work. Ms. Hisa has been successful and achieves positive results for her clients on dispositive motions in both state and federal court, including on demurrer, motion for summary judgment, motion to dismiss, and motion for terminating sanctions. Ms. Hisa is admitted to the State Bar of California, State Bar of Washington, and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District and Central District of California.

Prior to joining Schumann Rosenberg & Arevalo LLP, Ms. Hisa was in-house counsel for an insurance company representing clients in personal injury matters. In addition, Ms. Hisa has experience in a wide variety of areas of legal practice including professional liability, business and real estate transactions, complex securities litigation, antitrust litigation, family law, estate planning, probate law, estate and gift tax, employment law, and immigration. As a prosecuting attorney, Ms. Hisa assisted in achieving recoveries in upwards of $25.5 million from multi-billion dollar corporations, including, a preliminary settlement of $500 million. Ms. Hisa’s experience in both plaintiff and defense work gives her a unique perspective and the ability to provide a truly objective analysis of each case. Additionally, Ms. Hisa’s years of experience prosecuting fraud in securities actions assists in the development of litigation strategy to help stop fraudulent schemes and practices on the defense side.

Ms. Hisa earned her Bachelor’s of Arts in Philosophy with a major GPA of 3.88 from San Diego State University and her Juris Doctorate from California Western School of Law where she was on the Deans List while she graduated in the top 20% of her class and obtained the Academic Achievement Award (the equivalent of the American Jurisprudence Award) in immigration and estate planning.

Ms. Hisa served on the Board of Directors and as Treasurer for the Filipino American Lawyers of San Diego for several years and on the Orange County Asian American Bar Association Must Know General Counsel committee. Ms. Hisa moderated the Must Know General Counsel Luncheon for Startup Companies. Ms. Hisa volunteered as a full time post-bar law clerk at the San Diego County Superior Court and assisted self-represented litigants. Ms. Hisa also serves as a board member and Vice President for the homeowner’s association in her community.
